Urgent warning as major party staple recalled from popular Irish store over ‘electrocution’ fears

AN URGENT recall notice has been issued for a popular party staple over serious safety fears. 

The Competition and Consumer Protection Agency issued the recall alert on the Satzuma disco bulb and adapter sold by Boots in Ireland.

The safety watchdog warned that the product carries a risk of “electric shock”.

It stated that the safety concerns arises due to “the construction of the bulb and adapter elbow” as it “allows the user access to live parts which may cause electrocution”.

Some 1,187 affected products were sold here, with the product selling in Ireland as far back as September 2017.

The product code for the effected bulb and adapter is 7950667, however, the batch number and barcode are unknown.

The CCPC is urging customers to “stop using the product immediately” and to request a full refund for the faulty item.

A recall statement reads: “Boots Retail (Ireland) Limited is carrying out a recall of Satzuma Disco Bulb and Adapter.

“The risk reported to the CCPC is electric shock, as the construction of the bulb and adapter elbow allows the user access to live parts which may cause electrocution.

“The brand is Satzuma. The Satzuma product code 7950667. The batch number and barcode are unknown.

“There are approximately 1187 affected products in the Republic of Ireland. The affected products have been sold in the Republic of Ireland since September 2017.

“Customers should stop using the product immediately and visit https://www.satzuma.com/disco-bulb-recall to request a full refund.

“Alternatively, you can email returns@satzuma.co.uk or call the Boots Customer Care team at 1800 719824 for any further queries in relation to this recall.”

Elsewhere, a recall notice has been issued for popular babywear over safety fears. 

CHOKING THREAT

The Competition and Consumer Protection Agency said Asda/George is recalling Asda/George Babywear two Piece Short Dungaree Set in Charcoal, Green and Turquoise.

Affected products present a risk of choking

The button attachment strength does not meet the required standard, which could lead to the removal of the buttons, which a child may then place in their mouth.

Product details for the recalled items are as follows: 

  • The brand is George. 
  • The product is available in Charcoal, Green and Turquoise. 
  • The product codes are 7598627, 7598624 and 7598920 (in all sizes). 

There are approximately 14 affected products in the Republic of Ireland. 

The products were sold via the Global-E platform.
